Treatment: It is important to note that you used the term "suffering" from a stage 4 lung cancer. Most therapies such as chemotherapy or palliative care (hospice) at this stage are intended to alleviate the suffering of patient and provide him with optimal symptom relief. If he is having malignant pleural effusion and liver dysfunction at this stage after chemo, you should look into less aggressive options.

See medical oncology: You should take him to see a medical oncologist. She / he can help you figure out if the fluid needs to be taken out and how. She / he can also help figure out if there is another chemotherapy available for treatment depending on the type of lung cancer and the condition of your father.
