Consider TMJD: It could very well be temporo mandibular joint disease. The muscles at the side of the head are called the temporal muscles. Find a dentist who treats this problem, but do not expect a quick-fix.

MD first: Since you don't mention other TMJ symptoms, I would not automatically assume it's TMJ. I'd start with your MD. Perhaps a neurology consultation.
