Allergies: The schirmer's test is a good test to rule out out dry eye as the diagnosis, but not to further explore the cause. The next most likely diagnoses include allergy, infection, or foreign body. If your symptoms are in both eyes, foreign body is unlikely. Treating for a presumed infection with the drops prescribed made sense. I would suggest a trial of an anti allergy drop like "opcon-a".
