Not seen often: Much in developed world but i think the first sign is loose dentition from lack of vitamin c. That is the treatment, may wanna look up on wickepedia.

Never seen scurvy: but I did write a fictional paper in medical school about a ship's surgeon who encountered scurvy in his sailors. Symptoms of scurvy include loosened teeth with gum disease. Skin bruises easily and becomes rough & may have small petechial hemorrhages. The person likely feels tired, suffers from mood changes & poor wound healing. Once scurvy becomes quite advanced it can cause yellow skin, swelling
