Perforation: The two main risks of colonoscopy are perforation and missed lesions. The national rate of perforation is 1 in every 3, 000 to 5, 000 colonoscopies. This is a very low rate, so much so that it is considered very low risk. The rate of missed lesions is estimated to be about 15 for every 100 lesions, nationally. The risk of sedation depends on your health status, but it is generally very safe.
