Count to 20!: Pause before you react. Count to 20 or 30. Take a moment to breathe. Then ask yourself what are you thinking in that moment. Sometimes we make assumptions about what someone is "really" saying about us and get defensive. Sometimes we project outward our own feelings about ourselves. If you aren't having much success, see a psychotherapist who can help you with specific strategies.
