May be dangerous: Statins can cause liver dysfunction which is mild in most cases, but severe life-threatening liver failure is a known rare complication. If your liver enzymes got up more than twice the the normal level after statins are started, your doctor should consider stopping the statin and rechecking liver enzymes in 2-4 weeks.

It depends: Mild elevation of liver enzymes is common and usually not serious. However large elevations (which are rare) should prompt discontinuation of the drug. A review of your baseline cholesterol and your risk factors for coronary or other vascular disease is needed. Talk to your doctor!
