At least 7 hours: The average is between 6 to 8 hours and ideal is 7. But these are averages and there can be some variation. If you wake up feeling refreshed you should be ok.

8-9: Everyone needs 8 hours -- so say the experts. Many say 8 - 9. There is research going on to see if there is a limit beyond which too much sleep is actually detrimental. Rule of thumb for now : 8 - 9 hours.
