Cant answer: Ritalin (methylphenidate) is not more or less dangerous because of a prescription. No one can say exactly hw many pills will cause a problem. However, if you have a sensitivity to it or certain medical coditions, even one pill could be dangerous. One is always taking a risk using such medication without a dr's supervision.

Street Drugs = Bad: If Ritalin (methylphenidate) is not being prescribed and you are getting it off the street, then you very well may be doing yourself a lot of harm. Ritalin (methylphenidate) is a prescription drug for a reason -- because there are risks that require a medical doctor's monitoring.
