How are vaginal warts that are not externally visible tested for in the hospital?

The exam for vaginal warts involves a weak solution of vinegar or acid swabbed within the vaginal canal to expose areas that are rough surfaced and characteristic of vaginal warts. Once these are identified, a biopsy can be taken to confirm the diagnosis and treatment may be initiated if the area is extensive.

There is no lab test. The only way to diagnose warts in the vagina is by direct observation during a pelvic exam.
