Sometimes: Some families have inherited predispositions to getting certain cancers. There are many such cancers and syndromes from brca1&2, to li-frauneni, to retinoblastoma, to lynch, and others. The testing and screening guidelines are different for each. A consult with a genetic counsellor may be in order to review the family history and make screening recommendations.
