From one of them or: Most people will receive from one of the p[arents but in35% of cases it is an individual mutation or sporadic, means it just appers without coming from either parent.

Could be new: The genetic mutation that leads to osteogenesis imperfecta could have been a spontaneous mutation making you the first one to have it in the family.

Depends on type: There are 8 subtypes of OI recognized at this point.Many arise as new mutations and have a dominant mode of inheritance, meaning if your parent didn't have it you got a new mutation. Some subtypes have a recessive mode of inheritance, meaning both parents carried a silent gene they passed to the affected kid.
