How much do preemies weigh?

Wide Variation: With medical advancements, smaller and younger preemies are surviving. Sometimes as early as 21-22 weeks, but babies up to 37 weeks are technically premature. Weights can vary from less than 1 lb, to "normal" newborn weights.

Variable: Premie designates that the baby was born earlier than expected; less than 36 weeks gestation. It does not designate a weight. Some premies weigh 8 pounds or more or as little as 1 pound.
