Toe injury: Clean it with warm soapy water or hydrogen peroxide to see where it is bleeding from and how deep the cut is. If the wound looks deep, he may need stitches. If not, elevate the foot above heart level and you can apply ice for 15 min on and 15 min off. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen will help with pain. (please follow dosing instructions in the bottle.).

Take to the ER: It needs to be checked to make sure there is no fracture or laceration requiring stitches.
