There are many: There are over the counter medications, there are natural home remedies, there is prescription mendication, there is laser treatment. Unfortunately there is not a guaranteed remedy.

Yes: If you do have fungus, which is an organism that thrives in a dark, damp environment such as found in shoes and socks, it is best to confirm this with a proper fungal culture. Then remedies such as topical or oral medication and laser treatment can be fully discussed with your podiatrist.

Keep in mind...: The fda has recently come out with a blanket statement that toenail fungus can not be cured. It is "managed" by a number of modalities, but it can always come back in the future. Oral antifungal medicines (lamisil), topical medications (formula 3), laser therapy, surgical removal, homeopathic applications (tea tree oil). Talk to a podiatrist for what will be best and most effective for you.

Yes: Lamisil (terbinafine) 250mg daily for 3 months is the current recommended remedy. The way the medicine works is to arrest the progression of the fungus up the nail. With the fungus growth stopped, as your nail grows, the infection is pushed off the end and it may take 9-12 months for it to grow off completely. Lamisil (terbinafine) is implanted into the nail bed and stays there for the duration after you do the 90 days.
