Advantage and disadvantage of acrylic as a denture base material?

Very broad question.: As compared to what? Some individuals, although very uncommon, have acrylic allergies. Metal bases are stronger and thinner, but less easily adjusted if they cause any irritations or sores. Nylon bases are more flexible and cannot be added to or adjusted easily. Implant supported teeth are the best option. Discuss treatment options with your own dentist who knows you and your case best!

The way it is: The vast majority of dentures use acrylic as the base material. It is easy to work with, easy to repair, inexpensive, and accurate enough. It can look very natural. The disadvantages are lack of extreme accuracy, and it is not indestructible. If it is not used properly, there can be an allergic response. Alternatives are cast denture bases. The best one is gold, but cost is an issue.

Ease and cost: Acrylic is light and the most commonly used material. It provides for good fit and lasts a long time. Metal bases are too heavy hard to adjust and for upper teeth may reduce the retention.

Acrylics are: The most common materials used for the fabrication of dentures (removable and in some cases fixed implant retained cases). They are aesthetic, easily repaired and cost effective. They come in different shades (and ethnic shades) and quality levels. Each denture situation dictates the materials of the framework - metal, acrylic, combination. Hope this helps.
