Depends on the cause: The parotid gland can become swollen for a number of reasons. A proper diagnosis will help you determine how long the swelling might last. Common conditions include a blocked salivary duct or a bacterial infection (parotitis). Swelling may be constant or come and go with salivary stimulation (during meals), and may or may not be associated with pain. I suggest seeing a doctor for an evaluation.

Parotid swelling: Not really sure what your question is. It is not normal to have swelling of any kind in most instances, especially if it has lasted a while. It could be something as simple as a clogged duct, or a cold in the gland, or something more serious. I would see your physician asap.
