A member asked:

How much time does it take for edema to subside when during refeeding of malnurishment.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: It depends how malnourished the patient is. If it is severe, with much loss of protein, it is thought best to start with nourishment with simple sugars or carbohydrates and as the patient slowly responds to the nutritional care, protein can be added slowly to the diet. If a patient is very severely malnourished, it is very unwise to over-supplement them with all that they have lost, it takes time.
