A member asked:

Will a colonoscopic biopsy detect any disease or do they only test the biopsies for certain individual disorders?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on location: Colonic biopsies can be done at many levels of the colon, and each level of the colon has characteristic changes associated with specific diseases. For example, celiac disease usually needs to be detected in a duodenal biopsy while crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis tend to be deen more in right or left colon, rectum; polyps may be seen in many areas of colon; diarrheal diseases vary.
