Hypochondriasis: Hypochondriasis alone does not usually lead to psychosis, even though the worrying that comes with it can be very frightening. You need a good primary care doctor, a psychiatrist, and probably a therapist all working together with you, for the best results. Sometimes medicines help. Talk therapy can help you change the way you think about things, and that is invaluable.

Unlikely to happen: I have never seen a hypochondriac develop a psychotic form of the illness. Anxiety is the worry about what could happen. Paranoia is the certainty that it has or will happen. Keep this difference in mind. Hopefully this helps.

DOESN'T FOLLOW: THIS SORT OF WORRY FREQUENTLY HIDES DEEPER WORRIES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN WORKED OUT. AFTER CHECKING WITH A PROFESSIONAL TO BE SURE YOU'RE PHYSICALLY OKAY, WORK WITH SOMEONE FAMILIAR WITH ANXIETY PROBLEMS. IF YOU COULD HAVE WORKED THIS OUT ALONE YOU WOULD HAVE BY NOW. I DON'T EXPECT PSYCHOSIS TO FOLLOW, BUT WORRY IS SUFFICIENT PAIN TO MAKE LIFE HARD. GET SOME HELP WITH IT.
