Low dose CTchest: For the next 10 years your risk of lung cancer is higher than for a non smoker. I advise to save your money and pay for your own low dose screening ct chest for next 10 years if no contraindications. To find a stage 1 70% chance of cure lung cancer, ct chest gives the highest yield as compared with regular cxrays. A 1cm lesion will be missed on plain films more often than not.

Age and how much: Your overall risk of developing lung cancer depends on how long you have smoked for and how many packs the day you smoked. Additionally your age has a factor as well. While smoking puts you at highest risk for developing lung cancer it also put you at risk for developing oral cavity, head and neck, and upper G.I. Cancers as well. At the very least, the money you save from not having to buy cigarettes can be put towards the ct scans to screen your lungs for early cancer.
