Low white blood cell: Leukopenia is a general term for a low white blood cell count(wbc). That is all leukopenia means, it doesn't say anything about why there is are few wbcs. Often a mild leukopenia is from viral infections, and the typical thing to do is to recheck to see if it goes up. Severe leukopenia is managed emergently, sometimes in hospital. The next step is usually to be referred to a hematologist.
