No, it does not: There are many good treatments for anxiety, and the most helpful ones for you depend on the type of anxiety you're having. Psychotherapy is a cornerstone of all these treatments, and many times you can eventually wean off medications if you're on them. On your own, mindfulness practices, yoga, breathing exercises, guided visualizations, other practices all help greatly.

Managing anxiety: Does not require medication for life & often does not require medication at all. You can manage anxiety by learning relaxation skills & cognitive skills. Biofeedback (www.Bcia.Org or www.Aapb.Org) and cognitive behavioral therapy can teach you the skills you need. Find a mental health professional who treats anxiety.

No: In fact, you may not need medications at all. Make sure your doctor is trained in dealing with anxiety disorders. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is very effective in treating anxiety disorders.
