Methylphenidate : Both are brands of mph. Ritalin (methylphenidate) starts working in ~30 min, peaks ~1 1/2-2 hrs, & wears off in ~4hours. Concerta works in ~1 hr, peaks ~6hrs & wears off in ~12hrs. Variations in patients' metabolism of mph & difficulty timing the 2nd & 3rd daily doses of Ritalin (methylphenidate) make it hard to keep the mph blood levels & clinical effects consistent. Whereas branded Concerta is given in the am only.

Ritalin/Concerta: both belong to the Methyl Phenidate group of stimulants. Concerta is long-acting, while Ritalin (methylphenidate) can be immediate-release or slow release (Ritalin (methylphenidate)-SR).
