Why might my ear start hurting after i used a q- tip?

DON'T USE: It is never appropriate to use a q-tip for your ear canal, just for the grooves of the ear itself. Using a q-tip is like packing a cannon, the canal gets smaller and you can push wax in farther against the tympanic membrane (ear drum) causing pain, or even a rupture.
