Atelectasis: Atelectasis simply means that some of the tiny air spaces in the lung are not fully distended. The "linear" part just indicates that the volume of lung involved is small. Since ct scans are performed with the patient lying on his/her back, it is not uncommon to have a few scattered areas of atelectasis in the dependent parts of the lung. Bronchiectasis means that some of the airways are dilated.

Atelectasi: Atelectasis is another word for collapsed lung. When we talk about lobar atelectasis, then a whole lobe of the lung is collapsed. When you hear linear atelectasis, is just means a small line of lung is collapsed. In general, it in and of itself, is not a significant problem. The bronchiectasis is actual damaged airways.
