Consider: You might consider seeing a dentist educated and experienced in facial pain. There are reasons other than tooth problems that may be causing your sensitivity. A dentist needs to diagnose what is causing the pain before suggesting treatment options. Check www.Aaop.Org and www.Aacfp.Org for a listing of dentists.

Get another opinion: If it has been a year, you should have another evaluation, which may include x-rays and diagnostic testing. Sometimes tmj, bite problems and sinus issues can contribute to pain in the teeth.

Root exposure?: If the pain is actually coming from the teeth, it could be exposed root surfaces. If it hurts when you scratch at the gum line then it is mostly likely your problem. Using a desensitizing toothpaste will gradually help, a prescription Fluoride varnish in the dental office is faster. The most effective is custom trays with a desensitizing gel used overnight until the problem resolves.

Bad idea: Please get a second opinion. Removing all your teeth can be the worst decision you make. You will lose esthetics, function, hard and soft tissue etc. Replacement of teeth can be a very expensive endeavor mentally as well as financially. Find a doctor you feel comfortable with and make sure to evaluate his or her background.

Orofacial pain exper: There are orofacaical pain specialists you can seek, usually at the dental schools. Did you ever whiten your teeth? Avoid whitening your teeth and avoid all tooth pastes labeled whitening or tartar control. Use sensodyne, the nonwhiterning kind, tooth paste. It is also possible that you are clenching or grinding your teeth and may have to wear a mouth guard.
