Sounds more like a: Bicep strain. Whether this or from iv, apply ice pack for 20 min every 2 hrs for next 1-2d & rest it. If it becomes red, warm & swollen, please see your doc. Also if not geting better in a few days, check w doc. If related to iv, you can use a heating pad after 24-48 hrs. Don't do any wt lifting for at least a wk or until pain free & decrease wt & reps by 50%.Then slowly increase can use nsaid.

Phebitis: More than likely, the vein was entered with the needle, but the plastic IV was threaded into the vein above the puncture site. This local trauma by the needle or certain IV medications can make the vein irritated...Phlebitis. A small blood clot or thrombosis could also be at the site. Treat with NSAID meds like aleve (naproxen) and heating pad or warm moist heat. If the pain progresses, seek physician revie.
