Nonprogressive: Hydrocephalus can be stable or progressive. Arrested hydrocephalus occurs when the brain has been able to accommodate and is able to absorb the spinal fluid at a higher pressure, frequently without symptoms or progressive neurological injury.

Arressted Hydro: Arrested hydrocephalus' is said to have occurred when the intracranial pressure returns to normal, despite the ventricles remaining dilated. The CSF absorption appears to have balanced production. In the infant, normal development resumes but any pre-existing damage remains.
