Don't procrastinate: See your doctor before you run out of medicine. Level with your doctor about your increased use. If your doctor is not comfortable, he or she may want to refer you to a pain specialist. In the future, if you have inadequate pain relief, see your doctor quickly before you increase your medicine. Also consider cognitive behavioral therapy. This is proven to improve pain control.

Communicate: You need to tell your dr about the pain you are having and what it is requiring to cover it. If you just turn up "out" of pain pills in 1/3 the expected time, that will cause concerns. 4 tabs/day instead of 3 is not that big of a deal--as long as prescriber knows about it. Can also ask what non-narcotic med(s) you can take w/the lortab to help control pain.
