Normal variation: Hyperpigmentation (dark color) of the tongue and oral mucosa is commonly seen in dark-skinned individuals. Less common causes of this include certain medications, addison's disease, or Niacin deficiency.

Maybe normal: If you are dark skinned, this is a variation of normal. Same with dark gums. If light skinned, see oral surgeon for exam.
