Gland, cyst, node: Most common palpable nodules in relationship to the jaw would include salivary glands, cysts of the salivary glands and lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are usually tender with acute enlargment and are associated with an infection or ulceration in the mouth. Salivary glands can have acute infection and enlargement due to saliva back up associated with salivary stones or bacterial infections.
