What is the cause to have goiter if the blood work is normal for thyroid?

Familial/autoimmune: Iodine deficiency is very rare in the us. Most goiters are either familial, or due to underlying autoimmune thyroid disease. Goiter simply means you have an enlarged thyroid. The function of the thyroid may be normal, high, or low regardless of the size.
