How is it possible to inflict a syndesmosis injury and not have an idea how you did it to yourself?

Good question: In my experience, an injury to the syndesmosis between the tibia and fibula is normally a memorable experience for the patient. Are you sure the pain you are having is from a syndesmotic injury and can't possibly be anything else?

Too much to drink: Some injury may not manifest any swelling or pain till 1-2 days later.
