Several posibilities: You are undergoing diagnostic studies designed to learn what is causing your symptoms. Doctors generally rely on the findings to make this determination and if experienced, know not to make unwarranted suppositions when the answer will be available once the study has been done. Generally we look for inflammation, tumors, anatomic abnormality, etc.

Obstruction: A positive gastric emptying test indicates either delayed gastric emptying or obstruction of the stomach outlet. Your symptoms of difficulty swallowing are a red flag for either esophageal or proximal stomach obstruction. Endoscopy (egd) will provide a direct visual examination of the lumen of the esophagus and stomach that can identify the problem with a high degree of accuracy.
