Depends on Arthritis: Many people of 57yo will have finding of damage to the meniscus on MRI even if they have no clinical pain. However, in the absence of significant arthritis, and if sharp pain correlates with the meniscus damage noted on MRI and if physical exam is consistant, an arthroscopic evaluation with partial meniscectomy is reasonable. If significant arthritis is also present, a scope is less likely to help.
