Possibly anxiety: Muscle tensing behaviors often mean anxiety, but not always. Stimulants (adhd meds, some antidepressants, even lots of caffeine) can cause this too. What to do depends on the cause(s). Maybe start by avoiding stimulants and learning muscle relaxation techniques. If you feel anxious, counseling or therapy might help too. Dental guards can protect your teeth from grinding during sleep.

Sounds like tics: Random, uncontrollable and habitual muscle movements are called tic disorders. When they are accompanied by vocal noises (grunting, humming, words or even repetitive phrases) it is termed tourette's disorder. Sometimes obsessive compulsive disorder folks have lesser but similar behavior. Psychiatric evaluation would be the best way to sort out what is going on and there is treatment for it.
