You're fine: Hiv is not transmitted in the shower, toilet, or pool. During the bad old days when many people had high levels of the virus, family members did not infect each other except through intimate contact. Hopefully you two will build a friendship. Most gay guys are hiv-negative; if you're worried, he might tell you one way or the other.
