Evaluation: Could be your heart, arthritis, slipped disk, herniated disk, kidneys, etc.. Get checked.

Depends: Your symptoms sound like a rib problem, aggravated by impact sports (running). Get checked out by a chiropractor or a musculoskeletal physician who can treat this problem easily. Stretching and deep breathing exercises should prevent it from coming back. If you have had previous trauma, perhaps an x-ray will be recommended.
