Eyelid lumps & Bumps: An infection involving glands associated with each eyelash (external stye) usually clears without any serious permanent harm. Hot compresses speed the healing of these. Infections of the oil glands of the eyelids (internal stye or hordeola) may form chronic cysts (chalazia) that do not resolve quickly. If located in the middle of the upper eyelid they can irritate the cornea of the eye.
