No: I have never met a patient who has depression that stay the same over a long period of time. They feel bad, then things get better, then the depression may come back again later. Vulnerability to depression can last a lifetime. However, depression rarely stays extremely severe for more than a few weeks/months. Especially if treatment is given, feeling better is virtually guaranteed.
