Out of my field: Ok, ill field this one way out of my field, but as a general health question the issue is that different antibiotics are more effective and less effective for different infections - so the choice of an alternative antibiotic would depend on the type of infection and your personal medical history. Switching it out without talking to the prescribing doc can be a very bad idea.

Depends: It all depends on what you're taking the antibiotic for. Different antibiotics work better for different infections. Check with the doctor who prescribed the original antibiotic to see before you switch to amoxicillin, as it may not work for the type of infection you have.
