Differs by type: Dry eye can be caused by several factors, each which requires different treatment. Decreased aqueous (water) part of the tear production decreases with estrogen levels. Abnormal oily (lipid) layer is caused by abnormal meibomian gland function. Environmental, pharmacologic , and medical history can have an influence. Determining the cause helps your doctor customize a treatment. Get an exam.
