Must find out why...: The things that cause rapid weight gain in a person in just a short time include overeating (increased fat), water retention (some serious heart, liver, or kidney diseases can cause it), muscle growth (less likely), pregnancy, a fast growing tumor, hormonal disorders, etc... A doctor can evaluate and order tests if needed, to find the reason for the weight gain. Then one can work on losing weight.

Change your baseline: Changing your baseline activity level is key, if you went from an active to now a sedentary job - your baseline activity has decreased - so adding 30-60 mins a day of interval cardio will help! also, not skipping meals.. Eating protein every 3-4 hours and starting that 30-45 mins from waking is key! sticking to lean proteins, fresh veggies and fruits helps too.. Fiber and water also super important...
