Possibly but...: I have researched several websites about valerian and have not found this as a listed side effect. However, this is a common side effect of many drugs and herbs and it is certainly possible that valerian might cause this, even if it is clearly not a common side effect. The best way to find out would be to stop valerian and see if the metallic taste goes away, and also if it resumes on restarting.

Not typical: Valerian root is a potent drug for helping with sleep. There can be side effects and allergies as with any drug, but metallic taste is not one of them. Other meds may cause this. As for your sleep problem, concider seeing a sleep specialist for evaluation to evaluate your sleep problem, especially for sleep apnea. Fatigue and acid reflux are associated with sleep apnea.
