No: Typical upper respiratory infection (URI) is caused by virus, and therefore, no antibiotic treatment is necessary.

Bad choice: When you take an antibiotic for a cold, you're taking a placebo, since a cold is caused by a virus, and antibiotics only treat bacteria. As placebos go, amox/clav (augmentin) is a pretty "big gun, " since it kills lots of bacteria (more than you'd need to kill even if you did have a bacterial infection), and is more likely to cause diarrhea and c. Difficile colitis.
