Oral is inferior: Oral Methotrexate has more side effects, has variable absorption (only 30-70% compared to 100% injected methotrexate), and causes more nausea. The only reason it is prescribed more in adults is because there are no needles involved (adults will almost always choose pills if given a choice). In kids, we most often don't recommend or offer pills for the reasons listed above. Injections don't hurt.

No: There is no increased risk in fact many believe the injectable form is better as it gets directly into bloodstream and does not depend on absorption from the gut.
