Diagnosis first: These lines may be normal or they may not be. You could have and infection in your nail bed by a bacteria or a fungus. For this, you would need specific treatment and follow up. It could be due to trauma or illness. Certain skin condtions can cause this, such as psoriasis. If concerned, see a dermatologist for a nail exam and diagnosis.

Vertical ridges nail: If they are raised and nail-colored, then they can be buffed. If they are pigmented nail lines they need to be evaluated by a dermatologist as they can indicate, rarely, a serious mole problem.
