Sure: We use a very simple mouth prop that keeps the lips, cheeks and tongue away from the teeth as we place braces. It may feel irritating or odd, but it no way prevents breathing orally.

Absolutely: If you put your finger in your mouth it doesn't stop you from breathing. Same thing if your orthodontist puts his finger in your mouth. You'll be fine.

Certainly: You will be able to breathe through your mouth without an issue. If this is a concern for you because of trouble with nasal breathing, be sure to voice it to your orthodontist prior to the placement of braces. They will make sure you are comfortable and at ease with the process.
