Could air pollution in the atmosphere contribute to the rise of certain cancers?

Possible: It is difficult to link directly as there are so many variables to soft through... Changing population, geographic specifics, different and evolving pollutants, improved screening and thus earlier and increased detection, lead time bias, migratory patterns of people throughout life( may grow up in a different place than where they are diagnosed).
